master classes and workshops

massagespacenyc offers a variety of eastern and western master classes and workshops throughout the year. our classes continue to be popular both for content and affordability. classes are kept small (10 person maximum for hands-on and 15 person maximum for round-tables) so that students get ample attention and hands-on time. following are our current classes. please check back regularly for updates:

trigger point therapy: the series - with liz jacobs

$95 ($90 each for two, $85 each for 3 or more)

this is a hands on workshop designed to familiarize the student with myofascial pain syndrome. we will introduce the theory, causes, and treatment methods of trigger points in different regions of the body -- we will locate trigger points, identify pain patterns, and stretch target muscles. we will also look at different injuries associated with each region and common trigger points associated with those injuries. this is a muscle-specific workshop designed to enhance your medical massage skills. there are seven separate workshops in the series beginning with:

trigger point part 1: shoulder girdle

saturday, july 31st

this first workshop lays the foundation for the theory of trigger points. we will examine the physiology, causes of trigger points and treatment methods. we will start with the shoulder girdle and upper back muscles, their referred pain patterns, then look at treatment and stretches for these muscles. did you know there are headaches, and neck and chest pain associated with these trigger points? we'll learn more about these and postural conditions that can also be related. what a great way to enhance your medical and sports massage skills and even learn self-treatments!

we will seek to destroy trigger points in the anterior and posterior neck, which are often due to stress, whiplash, poor posture or occupational causes. we will also examine the intraoral pterygoid muscles, perform scalene release (often associated with brachial neuralgia) and include some deep anterior neck work. there's nothing like a great neck massage, join us!!

postnatal integration - with susanrachel condon sunday, august 8th 9:00-1:00 / 4 ncbtmb approved ceus $75

this workshop is for bodyworkers and childbirth professionals who wish to further their understanding and skills for the postnatal period. we will explore postpartum physiologic changes which occur from immediately after birth until three months. body mechanics, stretches, exercises and hands-on techniques will be explored and practiced. the impact of continuity of care in reducing postnatal depression and fostering confidence and effective attachment between parent and infant will be emphasized.

infant massage - with susanrachel condon sunday, august 8th

2:00-6:00 / 4 ncbtmb approved ceus $75

this workshop is for bodyworkers and childbirth professionals who want to learn basic infant massage techniques to teach to parents and caregivers. following an overview of normal newborn appearance and reflexes, we will discuss procedures in the delivery room which may impact a baby’s need for and response to massage. then we will review the needs and developmental changes of infants from immediately after birth through the first year. massage will be demonstrated and participants will be expected to return demonstrate using a doll or stuffed animal with fully movable limbs. passive movement and rhythm patterning will also be demonstrated and practiced. a film will be shown and numerous handouts given.

registration is on a first come basis. a space will be reserved for you when you send a check for the full amount made out to massagespace. please include a phone number and address so that we can contact you to confirm your registration. when a class is filled we will take a few names for a waiting list, in case of cancellations.

cancellation policy:
cancellation within ONE WEEK of class will be assessed a 25% cancellation fee which means that you will be refunded 75% of the price of the class. cancellation within 24 HOURS of class will be assessed a 25% cancellation fee however, there will be NO REFUNDS – the remaining 75% of the price of the class can be used toward an upcoming class within ONE YEAR of the original class.
