massagespacenyc offers a variety of eastern and western master classes and workshops throughout the year. our classes continue to be popular both for content and affordability. classes are kept small (10 person maximum for hands-on and 15 person maximum for round-tables) so that students get ample attention and hands-on time. following are our current classes. please check back regularly for updates:

thai massage with michael alicia

thai massage is a very popular class as the modality is gaining popularity with the general public. it also provides the practitioner with an alternative form of body work to give fatigued hands, thumbs and minds a break from their swedish massage regimen, and it is a good skill for marketing to spas. the class teaches students the fundamentals of a full-body thai massage protocol, incorporating side-lying and seated techniques that can also be used for pregnant clients.

exploration: the shoulder

10-4-8-1. explore the 10 muscles, 4 ligaments, and 8 movements of the 1 shoulder joint. We’ll examine the structure of the shoulder joint as well as common problems such as, rotator cuff injuries, proximal biceps tendinitis, common strain and sprain injuries. the shoulder joints connection to the arm, shoulder girdle, neck and thorax make it a potential trouble spot. join us in a journey through the dynamics of the shoulder joint, using specific tendon and ligament friction, myofascial techniques, trigger points and stretching.

we will examine the muscles and movements of respiration and how it is connected to posture, stress and pathologies of breathing. we will explore and treat the specific muscles of respiration and dysfunctions of the thorax, including asthma, bronchitis kyphosis, and fibromyalgia, using multiple techniques including, myofascial, friction, stretching, resisted breathing exercise, and trigger points. take a deep breath and come and explore!

in this workshop we will explore the innumerable ways that we can enhance our work by incorporating movement – shaking, rocking, stretching, mobilizing, tractioning, compressing and vibrating, into a Swedish-based treatment. by connecting with our clients’ sense of movement proprioception, while doing everything from effluerage to myofascial and trigger point work, we can deepen the body’s ability to release and give our clients a more pleasurable and dynamic experience of their bodies.

registration is on a first come basis. a space will be reserved for you when you send a check for the full amount made out to massagespace. please include a phone number and address so that we can contact you to confirm your registration. when a class is filled we will take a few names for a waiting list, in case of cancellations.

cancellation policy:
cancellation within ONE WEEK of class will be assessed a 25% cancellation fee which means that you will be refunded 75% of the price of the class. cancellation within 24 HOURS of class will be assessed a 25% cancellation fee however, there will be NO REFUNDS – the remaining 75% of the price of the class can be used toward an upcoming class within ONE YEAR of the original class.
