The Money Stroke is the delicious stoke that our clients remember us by; the stroke that makes a massage feel good and separates the average massage from the remarkable one.  It’s the remarkable therapist who gets the phone call.  This master class is a collection of money strokes using range-of-motion as a unifying theme.  Each therapist will have two hours of practice time (and 2 hours of recipient time).  Since we will work fast with each therapist working both supine and prone, incorporating muscles in the extremities, the torso, the neck and shoulder girdle, it is a good idea to review the muscle’s actions, origins and insertions beforehand.  The muscles we will target are gastrocnemius, soleus, the quadriceps, the hamstrings, quadratus lumborum, the psoas, the forearm flexors and extensors including bracioradialis, the biceps, the triceps, the rotator cuff muscles, pectoralis major, the upper traps, the scalenes and levator scapula.  This class is especially good for the beginning therapist or the therapist looking for inspiration and a new and innovative way to approach the body.

Better Body Mechanics

Saturday,  March 29,  2008                                             $ 65.

10 am -  5 pm

NCBTMB approved  (6 CE hours)                             * 10 student maximum

is very popular with students and practitioners who have practiced for a time and need a refresher course in better body mechanics.  The class starts away from the massage table, exploring a simple Tai Qi posture.  By working with students to (re)discover their centers of gravity, at Tanden (just below the navel), we work to re-orient strokes and body mechanics so students learn to lean from their centers, putting the power of their strokes in the stronger and bigger muscles of the legs and not the (more easily injured and fatigued) muscles of the back and arms.  We also explore working with other body parts like fists, forearms, elbows and knees with a strong emphasis on proper form in order to provide alternatives to over-used hands and thumbs.

The Stretching Process

Saturday & Sunday,  April  5-6,   2008                     $ 195.

9 am - 6 pm

NCBTMB approved  (16 CE hours)                          * 10 student maximum

explores the benefits of full-body passive stretching techniques.  The class starts by exploring the anatomy of stretch, by first defining the anatomical structure of muscle tissue, down to the microscopic contractile unit, the sarcomere, and then exploring neurological components of stretching (muscle spindles and golgi tendons ) to reap greater benefits from the work. The class is primarily a hands-on technique class that works through each area of the body, providing the student with a comprehensive approach to stretching clients as either a supplement to their massage work or as a full-body stretching session.  The class is especially popular with personal trainers and shiatsu practitioners and also gives massage therapists tools for helping clients with rehabilitation after injury.

Thai Massage

Saturday & Sunday,  May 3-4,   2008                          $ 195.

9 am - 6 pm

NCBTMB approved  (16 CE hours)                              * 10 student maximum

is a very popular class because Thai massage is gaining popularity with the general public and it also provides the practitioner with an alternative form of body work to give fatigued hands, thumbs and minds a break from their Swedish massage regimen.  Thai massage is also a good skill for marketing to spas.  The class teaches students the fundamentals of a full-body Thai massage protocol, incorporating side-lying and seated techniques that can also be used for pregnant clients.
